Numb and Number
Have you ever noticed that regardless of how heinous a piece of news or video that circulates on social media is, that it blows over in a month or less? Remember when we watched the gruesome scenes of ISIS decapitating people how upset we were? Or what about the dentist who killed Cecil the lion, or what about the leader of Planned Parenthood caught on video selling human body parts of aborted babies?
It seems that no matter what the crime is, or how intense it is in severity to the norms of our society, we simply forget about it and go on. Little is done, and in a few weeks the tragedy, no matter how severe, is all but forgotten. Why is this? The answer is really quite simple: We are so engrossed in our own lives and our own issues that we have little regard for the plight of others on this planet. Greed and lust are at an all-time high, as is the desire to covet the things we don’t have, but want.
When describing the people of today the bible is quite clear on what most people on earth would be like. Brace yourself. Here is a mirror for most of us:
But understand this that in the last days there will come times of difficulty.
For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. 2Timothy3:1-7 ESV
This is quite a bucket list of vile ways and motives which many of us possess. We couldn’t care less about the needs of others, and we continually lust for more for ourselves, more pleasures, more drugs, more money, more booze…it’s party time!
The sad reality for most people, there is no party. Most of us have been hurt deeply in the formative years of our lives and we have never recovered from it. All we know is bitterness and hatred, as Messiah Yeshua stated:
And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. Matthew 24:12 ESV
And that is the two-fold problem with most of us today on planet earth. Our lawlessness is increasing more and more as mankind forsakes the commandments of God, resulting in the love of many growing cold; we have nothing but apathy for our fellow man. We simply don’t care about the needs of another person because our focus is only on ourselves. People who feel this way are growing more in number every day. With each new disappointment, setback, failure, breakup, manipulation, abusive relationship, addiction, etc., people are falling deeper into despair. It’s not even so much that we choose to turn our backs on our fellow man, it’s more like we are incapable of caring about the needs of others. We have all but given up – let someone else help them – I can’t do anything for them – I have to take care of me – have to feed me, me, me, me.
We’ve become such a selfish and self-centered generation that I fear that regardless of what happens on earth, going forward, we will never be able to stop it. Never. All we care about is having that new car, house, cell phone, or going to that new watering hole that just opened up with all the cool lights and cheap drinks. Drugs, suicide and porn -the devil sells you cheap.
As I see it, no one cares about abortion, the selling of fetal body parts, the ISIS crisis, the Syrian problems or anything else. We don’t care about any of it. Period.
So, what will it take? Will it be the Messiah returning and we all jump on board and escape the wrath slated for this world? No! We’re going through the tribulation, just as the Jews will realize they killed their Messiah, Yeshua, Christians will realize there actually is something good about Torah observance. Don’t fool yourself. Just because you go to Church or pay tithes doesn’t mean you have a fast track ticket to Heaven. We’re not getting the message: We are called to love one another. Remember that Scripture? And others, those who don’t know Messiah, will know we have a relationship with God as evidenced by our love for one another. Such a thing exists only in a few places today, and such places are becoming extinct.
It’s not having a ‘touchy-feely’ relationship with Messiah that will reverse our lack of love for others. The only thing is our desire to please God through the love and obedience we have for his word (Torah), and his commandments (Torah). Until that happens there will be no peace on earth, in fact, things will keep deteriorating till the things we see happening on the earth start happening in our own communities; in our own backyard. It’s coming to us, to all of us; this is our just reward for our complacency towards those who are suffering. I am including myself in this, so this is not a finger of judgment. I’m saying we are all guilty of this horrible apathy towards those who need our help, but will most likely never receive it from us.
Right now there are infants being decapitated during a ‘routine’ abortion. There are young boys and girls being introduced to Crystal Meth for the first time. There are young boys and girls who have no one to turn to for help after being molested by an adult. There’s an addict who is thinking about suicide, there are so many people in need, and all we do is sit on our blessed assurances watching their plight on that accursed television, and do absolutely nothing about it!
What will it take to reverse this horrible slippery slope that most of us are on; Jew, Muslim and Christian? It’s adherence to God’s Torah! Why do you think that with all of these new ministries, Churches, Mosques and Synagogues starting up, that the world is growing darker and darker? Don’t you dare blame the devil! He has absolutely nothing to do with this. He hasn’t changed in thousands of years. He only has the same garbage to offer people, and that has never changed.
So, what will it take to make a change? Actually I don’t believe anything will. We’re too far gone. Our heads are stuck so far in the sand and we are so numb to the suffering of those around us, that we’ll never be able to escape the coming wrath and judgment of God. Nothing is going to spring us into action to help the plight of those needing our resources. Don’t you get it? Is your mind so dull? Humanity needs a father and we need to abide by his rules for safety. If you have a two year old child holding your hand while crossing the street of busy traffic, would you suddenly let her go if she protested holding your hand? Well, why in God’s name would it be any different with our Father in Heaven? Do you think he gave us the Torah for his benefit or ours? Foolish people. It’s not a sermon about ‘7 Steps to this’, or ‘5 Steps to that.’ God is done with that kind of vanity. He wants us to learn his Torah and keep his rules to give us a safe place to live.
Look around. Everything pertaining to God is being removed from society, and no one, that’s you and me, are doing anything about it. Wait until the government takes your children to raise them in institutions. “That will never happen!” you say. Foolish people. It already has happened, and will happen again.
In closing, if you want a change in this world, don’t expect it to be a Christian revival that will sweep the world. It will never happen. Don’t expect Islam, Christianity or Modern day Judaism to solve our problems. Here is the answer::
If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
If you are not aware, or still think you have no wicked ways, then you need to read this over until you understand. We all have fallen short. All of us. That’s you and me. STOP thinking you’re righteous. If you have done nothing about the things listed here, then you’re part of the problem and far from being a part of the solution. God have mercy on our souls, or better yet, please put a fire inside us that burns for your Torah. Amen.
